Mighty Yorkshire U1850s march on!
Semi-final report and game analysisI previously posted about a game I played for the Yorkshire U1850 team. Since then I played another match with them and lost my game quite painfully - I've not actually managed to bring myself to analyse that game fully though I know I missed a trick in the opening. However despite my loss the team won the match and went through to the national playoffs. I then missed the quarter-final but was back in the team for last Saturday's semifinal against Sussex. We played in Peterborough about which the less said the better, but at least it was reasonably convenient on the train.
I was (deservedly) down on board 7 thanks to the use of the up-to-date ratings lists. However I'd just won a couple of nice games online so was feeling to be in decent form. Here's how it turned out:
Apart from getting a bit greedy and going slightly astray in the complicated middlegame battle, I had the more enjoyable side of the game overall and the last half was very comfortable. I hung around to see a very nice engame conversion on board 1 which won us the match before heading off for my train home. Final is early next month, watch this space!
