More important than winning

ChessOff topic
How to play the game of Chess and life.

You know how people say, "It's not whether you win or lose. It's how you play the game." I used to say that the quote was nonsense because if you play the game right, you win. But now I understand that what's more important than winning is winning on my terms. If someone has to use dishonest tricks to win in the business world, they may make money, but they can't live with themselves.

And even in Chess, it's more important to win on my terms. Did I win more often as white when I started with e4? Absolutely, but still I chose d4 as my first move now because I wanted to be different and move the queen's pawn forward first because I am no longer a king but a queen in the game of Chess. In the world of games and life, you don't win unless you are the one making moves the way you like.
