Antichess: Beating the g3/g6 annoyance

Chess variantOpeningStrategyTacticsAnalysis
Annoyed by facing g3/g6 in Antichess? Read this post about how to beat that annoyance.

What g3 spammers try to do

There are lots of trivial forced loses in g3 lines, so people try to play them always. But when their opponent doesn't respond with the lines they expect their opponent to, the g3 spammers have no idea about what to do and end up losing badly. But still, g3 is a huge annoyance.
Here is what I think they try to do:

Best ways to keep the g3 spammers in check

The best way to keep such players in check is to learn the stockfish suggested lines. Also, always respond to g3 with Nh6 or g6 or g5 or b6 or b5 or my personal favourite, c5.

What they want to achieve with g6

So now we have gone over g3, lets move on to g6.
g6 is also about getting bishop to g7 and forcing a zugzwang with Bxa1. Here are a few examples of g6 responses:

  • c4 g6:

Here, an interesting analysis by stockfish suggests that white should play e6 or a4 instead of removing the Bxb2 threat by playing b3 or b4.
  • e3 g6:
This won't happen 90% of the time, as its a forced loss, but sometimes the g6 spammers might premove this and end up losing.

Summary of the Blog

  • To avoid g6, play e3 or stockfish lines in other openings.
  • To beat g3, play Nh6/g6/b6/b5/g6/c5.
  • Beware of Bg7/Bg2 against g3 spammers.
  • Learn the elementary traps of both.
  • Don't become a g3 spammer.
