What is a teams Masnou?

Imagine the fast-paced, continuous action of a regular Masnou tournament, but with an exciting team twist! A "Teams Masnou" tournament takes all the individual fun and adds a layer of collective strategy, where the ultimate victory belongs to the group.

Aggregated Team Score: Individual wins and draws contribute to a team's overall score. For example, if a win is 1 point and a draw is 0.5 points, all points earned by players on Team A are added together to form Team A's total score.

The team with the highest total aggregated score wins the tournament!

On Thursday, 8th May, Beijing was for a second (or rather two hours) the perfect laboratory for a worldwide experiment, as it hosted the First Teams Masnou tournament ever recorded. Two teams, 24 players in total, lined up to vie for two hours of relentless blitz.

As expected, a new event, a new format, and new rules yielded a couple of surprises. What remained consistent, however, was the camaraderie as we all united to contribute to the club we love so much. In total, 141 games were played, resulting in a clear victory for Susie's Dream Team (89.5 points) against Alex's AleXecutors (51.5 points).

Playing a Masnou game always involves a significant luck factor; it's unlike a Swiss, a Round-Robin, or a Scheveningen tournament. Its unexpected nature demands a broad, off-the-board strategy.

After the success of the first Teams Masnou, on Saturday, 14th June, Beijing hosted again a distinctive tournament format that innovates and catches everyone's attention. Six teams, 30 players in total, lined up to score as many points as possible within 120 minutes.

For this event, a maximum of 5 victories per sit was set; as well as introducing the rule of repeating colors in case of victory. These two novelties took more than one by surprise, but made the Masnou the perfect laboratory to try out new opening repertoires or novelties and ideas that many wouldn't dare in another tournament format.
