On Launch Freestyle Event in Singapore
Recently Chess960 match between Carlsen and Caruana was held as a launch event for a big "Freestyle Chess" series and as a Warm-up before World Championship Ding vs. Gukesh. Some info & HighlightsInfo
Having such "side-event" is of course very cool, generally Carlsen and Caruana can be easily called World #1 and #2 players. There are other side-events, masterclasses, simuls and open tournament (You can check organizers website). Organization of World Championship is on the level.
It was also an "intro" event for Freestyle Grand Chess Slam Tournament Series. 5 Chess960 tournaments with Elite players and 10+ million dollars prize fund. Well, it's some money, we'll see where Chess960 can go with this. Organizers have a website.
Some pool photos
There were also some photos of Carlsen and Caruana playing Fischer Random in the pool (You can see the distance between King and Queen).
Actually there also exist a photo of Fischer himself playing Larry Evans (4-times US champion) in the pool in 1971.
You can check position from this photo more closely here (Spoiler: Fischer winning)
Interesting fact: There exist a hybrid similar to chessboxing called diving chess where chess played under water (Wiki page, official website)
Games
Games were played on a yacht, I am not an expert but quite rich I think :). There was fun head & hand session 10+10 where Carlsen & Sachdev won Caruana & Ashley 2-0 before main 60+30 games. All games can be checked on broadcast.
In main 60+30 Carlsen vs. Caruana, in game 1 position quickly got unbalanced, Caruana made mistake first and lost
In the second game Caruana pressured with white, but didn't win a pawn up rook endgame that was quite tricky
