The power of Pawns

ChessStrategy
Hi community! These are the ways pawns are mighty.

As a chess piece, pawns are often underestimated. But, pawns have hidden power, that can be tapped by us when necessary! Did you know, that though the pawn formation of "tripled pawns" are dreaded, they can control SIX squares! Here are a few positions to show pawn power.

1. Cramped!

This is an extreme show of pawn power. Not only Black is bound hand and foot, white also takes the b pawn and gets a strong passed pawn.

2. Underesti-MATE!

Believe it or not, the mate in 2 clearly underlines the power of doubled pawns! Though black has 4 strong passed pawns, they are really useless as black's king has one foot in the grave.

3. Hanging backfire!

Black is a pawn up, but those c and d hanging pawns are a power to reckon with.

4. Good Pawns versus bad Minor pieces.

Here, if we had to count material, it seems as if black wins easily. However, don't underestimate the power of connected passed pawns!
