In Round 1 of the Sharjah Masters, GM S. P. Sethuraman had the advantage against top seed GM Nodirbek Abdusattorov, but let his chances slip and the game ended in a draw. A minor upset happened on board 5, where home favourite GM Salem Saleh lost to GM Dai Changren. He will try to bounce back in Round 2, starting at 11:00 UTC.

The FIDE Women's Grand Prix 2024-25 ended after six tournaments: GM Zhu Jiner is the overall winner and, together with runner-up GM Aleksandra Goryachkina, secured a spot in the Women's Candidates Tournament! While GM Anna Muzychuk won the final event in Großlobming, Austria, she couldn't overtake Goryachkina to qualify for the Candidates.

GM Bardiya Daneshvar is the new Asian Chess Champion and IM Song Yuxin is the new Asian Women's Chess Champion! The top ten players of the Open and the top two players of the Women's tournament have qualified for the upcoming FIDE World Cup and FIDE Women's World Cup, respectively.
